Get the most from your block paving sealer
How to use:
- 1. Clean your driveway or patio with a power washer and our BergPro surface cleaner a few days before
- 2. Make sure it’s completely bone dry on the day you want to seal
- 3. Add more sand between all the paving blocks if you need to
- 4. Pour sealer into a CLEAN, dry bucket and grab a BergPro brush or roller
- 5. Brush or roll across the concrete surface in thin layers
- 6. Wait 4 hours to walk on it (Give it 24 hours to completely cure)
Coverage & amounts:
One litre typically covers around 2m². If your surface is in a bad condition or more porous, you’ll need a little more.
Most seals and re-seals require two coatings.
Top tips & tricks:
- Wait until a completely dry day to apply, with no rain forecast
- Blow or brush the surface before you apply – don’t use any water
- Too hot or too cold? Wait another day. Block paving sealer works best in temperatures between 12 and 23°C
- Keep your brush moving around so you don’t let the sealant pool and congeal
- Don’t apply your 2nd coat of your sealer too soon. Make sure it’s dry or you’ll leave footprint marks.
- Don’t put rock salts on sealers. It can help let water in and break the seal.
- Your seal should last for 3 to 5 years. Pop a fresh coast of sealer on then to keep your driveway or patio looking sparkling new.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use this seal on a block paving patio?
Yes, this is the best sealer for block paving, whether you
have it on your patio, your driveway or paths around your house.
What maintenance do I need to do after applying?
Not very much! The whole point of applying a block paving
sealer like this one is so that it protects your drive and patio and stops you
from having to worry about damage, dirt, moss or weeds. Just a quick, simple
clean every now and then will keep it in tip top shape.
Will this stop weeds growing between block paving?
Yes, that’s one of the big benefits of a block paving
sealer. It forms a protective layer across all the ‘gaps’ in between your
blocks, stopping dirt, soil and seeds from embedding and growing. No more
weeds!
Can I use this on any block paving?
Although this a great sealer for general block pavers, we
wouldn’t recommend using it on clay pavers or natural stone. If you have Indian
stone or sandstone pavers, you’ll need a specialist sealer.
How long will this block paving sealer last?
We see most sealers lasting around 3 to 5 years, but it all
depends on the weather, general maintenance and everyday use. For maximum protection,
re-sealing every two years is always best.
Does this sealer change the colour of blockpaving?
No, this sealer isn’t block paving paint and doesn’t contain
any colour tint. But when applied, the matt finish does give a slightly darker,
duller looking, boosting the existing colour underneath.
It’s always easier to go darker with a colour tint. If you have a dark driveway or patio already and you want to go lighter, you might get mixed results. Get in touch with our team to discuss your options before buying.
How do I apply this sealer to my driveway quickly?
There are a number of tools you can use to apply block
paving sealer – speed will probably come down to personal preference. You could
try a sprayer
– but be careful you don’t overspray gaps. A roller or a brush can often do
just as quick and effective a job.
How long do I wait before I can walk on the surface after applying?
You’ll need to wait at least 4 hours before you can walk on
the block paving after sealing… ideally as long as possible to make sure it’s
fully dry. Driving on it – if you’re applying it on your drive – will need to
wait a minimum of 24 hours.
Why do I need to wait for my block paving to be completely dry after cleaning?
Any water – even the tiniest bit of moisture –
can interact with the sealer and stop it from bonding to the block paving
surface. When this happens, the sealer can ‘bloom’ which means it goes white
and cloudy. It’s easily
fixed, but it’s ALWAYS best to apply sealer when the surface is bone dry.
